Brexit may have forced Kyle Abbott’s hand in signing Kolpak deal now

Players and counties are racing to sign so-called “Kolpak” contracts before Britain formally exits the European Union.

Cricketers are assuming that Kolpak contracts signed before the end of the year won’t be voided by Brexit.

According to the “Kolpak ruling”, professional sportspersons of EU countries – and those of countries such as South Africa that are eligible in terms of the “Cotonou Agreement” - can work in any other EU country.
