Technobyte: CES 2017 50th anniversary show in Las Vegas

Everything around is getting connected and smarter. This was one of the big trends at the show this year. From smart fridges, to beds, to hairbrushes and appliances – everything is being connected to the Internet

Televisions have always been a big feature at CES and this year was no exception.

Samsung, LG and Sony launched ultra thin televisions. 4K TV’s seem to be settling as the industry standard and the picture quality from what we saw on the floor this year was spectacular.

The panels featured breath-taking colours, clarity and contrast. Samsung launches their QLED (Quantum dot technology) TV’s and LG added to their OLED displays.

The other trending technologies included drones, health care, cars, virtual reality, robots, personal assistants and artificial intelligence and algorithms that drive these technologies.

Some of my favourite gadgets included…

Zera™ Food Recycler from Whirlpool The Zera™ Food Recycler by WLabs is a solution to help reduce food waste in landfills. Built to convert household food waste into homemade fertilizer, it can handle a week's worth of discarded food for an average family.

Smart Remote by Sevenhugs Smart Remote is the world’s first contextual control system for connected homes. It lets you control everything at home with just one touch.

When you point Smart Remote at a device, the screen automatically adapts and you just need one touch to control it - a seamless and intuitive control system.

Sleep Number 360 smart bed Sleep Number’s 360 smart bed will forever transform the way people sleep.

The new integrated design includes a proprietary algorithm (powered by SleepIQ technology) and machine learning to intuitively sense and automatically adjust all night for an effortless and optimized sleep experience.

Aipoly Vision An artificial intelligence allowing mobile phones to recognise thousands of items in real-time to assist the blind and visually impaired with exploring their surroundings.

Samsung Family Hub Fridges The Family Hub™ is a revolutionary new refrigerator with a Wifi enabled touchscreen that lets you manage your groceries, connect with your family and entertain like never before.

LEGO Boost LEGO® BOOST combines the endless play opportunities of a traditional LEGO set with an endless variety of movement and sound capabilities made possible through an easy-to-use, app-based coding environment.
