Western Cape Education MEC, Debbie Schafer, has confirmed that about 18 000 children in the Western Cape still need to placed.
According to Schafer about 4600 children will be starting Grade 1.
The schools are opening on Wednesday in the Western Cape as in the rest of the country, and Shafer cites reasons behind the outstanding placements.
The reasons are varying. Some where not able to get space because schools are full. We have some cases where people have accepted more than one school and despite for asking them to make their choices they haven't done that.— Debbie Schäfer, Western Cape Education MEC
There should be a better indication after schools open tomorrow as to where children are going.
It is advisable for parents to note that children cannot always be admitted to a school of their choice and should consider other alternatives.
We are trying to make every school a school of excellence. We are doing everything we can to ensure that.— Debbie Schäfer, Western Cape Education MEC
