ANC stalwarts locked in meeting over January 8 statement

African National Congress (ANC) stalwarts are currently locked in a meeting discussing the January 8 statement of ANC national executive committee (NEC) delivered by President Jacob Zuma on Sunday.

The group of ANC veterans known as the stalwarts have been very critical of Zuma and the organisational state of the ANC under his leadership.

They have called for the consultative conference to discuss, among other things, a renewal of the organisation.

The veterans then rejected the ANC's decision to hold a two-day consultative conference tagged on to the policy conference.

Today they are expected to receive a report on the preparations for the conference.
