A new leaf for Sans Souci as controversial principal retires

Western Cape Education Department spokesman, Paddy Attwell, says the officials investigating the case of Sans Souci Girls' High School completed their investigations during the holidays.

There were protests over issues of racism at the school last year. The pupils complained about the school's language policy, saying that they are not allowed to speak in their mother tongue when at school or in uniform.

All affected individuals were awarded an opportunity to make representations, says Atwell.

He says the school's policy was reviewed and now they are in the process on reviewing their code of conduct.

The focus now will be on building a culture of inclusivity as well as order and discipline.

Paddy Atwell, WC education department Head of Communications

According to Atwell, the principal has retired as she could not handle the trauma and stress that came with these problems.
