Principal advocates no home work approach

For the past 18 months Sun Valley primary school in Fish Hoek has been trying out the creative approach to teaching and learning including getting rid of homework.

Gavin Keller, Principal at Sun Valley Primary School says they have been monitoring and evaluating this approach and they believe it works perfectly well.

Our academic results at the end of last year were absolutely superb, right across the board.

The no homework concept changed the attitude of the children and when attitude changes the brain is ready to learn.

Keller says the structure of teaching needed to change from what it was 20 year ago. He says the structure is too tight and needs a rethink.

The reality is we need innovators and people to try new things and see things differently.
