197 400 new students enrol at universities this year (63 950 in scarce skills)

South Africa’s 26 universities will provide access to 197 400 new students this year.

Of that number 63 950 students will enrol in scarce skills (engineering, health, science, etc.).

John Maytham spoke to EWN’s Barry Bateman.

Bateman attended a media briefing by Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande on Thursday morning.

Nzimande spoke about universities’ state of readiness and opportunities in the post-school education and training sector.
