Tech used to fight Cape's raging fires

A new technology called Emergency Policing and Incident Command (EPIC) helps fight fires in the Cape.

It took two years to develop this technology and tests were run since the middle of last year.

EPIC allows the City to coordinate an almost immediate response to a number of emergency situations and it was used to put out the threatening blazes above Simons Town and in Ocean View in the last few days.

JP Smith, Mayoral committee member for safety and security says they are tapping into advanced tech that will allow the emergency services to respond faster.

He says the next step will be to incorporate the police services to use similar advance technology.
