Former SABC chairs give contradictory testimony about political pressure

Parliament's ad hoc committee has heard contradictory testimony from key witnesses at the SABC inquiry, reports EWN parliamentary correspondent Gaye Davis.

Davis explains that there have been several discrepancies from statements made by witnesses.

The parliamentary inquiry into the SABC is now dealing with its final witness, former SABC board chairperson Ellen Tshabalala, who has admitted to there being political interference at the public broadcaster.

Earlier on Friday, the inquiry interrogated her predecessor former SABC board chairperson Dr Ben Ngubane, who denied any influence.

Inquiry chairperson Vincent Smith said that there would be consequences for witnesses who have mislead or lied to the committee.

He's given a warning to say that it's perjury and that he would like to see people go to jail if it's proved that they deliberately misled parliament.
