SA Air Force joins efforts to fight ongoing Cape fires

The South African Air Force (SAAF) has agreed to deploy additional resources to combat the various fires burning in the Western Cape.

There are at least 19 fires currently being fought across the province, mainly in the Cape Peninsula, West Coast and Cape Winelands districts.

We've got about 19 ongoing fires, most of them small.

According to city officials, the fire in Paarl and in Stilbaai have been the toughest to contain.

Strong winds are hampering firefighting efforts in the Paarl region.
