SABC and MultiChoice deal contravenes Broadcasting Act - leaked document

A working document compiled by the Parliament ad hoc committed looking into the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has been leaked online.

EWN reporter Gaye Davis says Parliament is due to meet on Thursday and Friday to finalise the report.

The leaked 38-page document gives some evidence and indication of the recommendations.

Among other things, the document says the R264m MultiChoice deal was against the public mandadate and contravened the Broadcasting Act.

The document also states that the interim board needs to investigate irregular expenditure at the SABC, and that the money should be recovered.

It's a working document. It's not yet a draft report. Chair of the committee has been very unhappy that it's been leaked. It has no official standing at the moment.
