Climatologist warns rainfall will not be enough to fill dams

Dr Peter Johnston, Climatologist at the Climate Systems Analysis Group, UCT, says there is no expectation of high rainfall in the next three months.

The model used to predict rain fall shows that the cape will have normal rainfall between February and March, which wont be enough to fill the dams.

Our climate models are trying to work out why the climate for the next three months would be different from what we normally expect.

Dr Peter Johnston, Climatologist at the Climate Systems Analysis Group, UCT

We have to look further into April and some of the models are saying we could have a wetter April, about 150% of our normal rainfall.

Dr Peter Johnston, Climatologist at the Climate Systems Analysis Group, UCT

My point is in order to fill the dams this winter, we need to have a significantly higher rainfall than normal and we not expecting that.
