WhatsApp message on water cuts is a hoax - CoCT

A misleading WhatsApp message has being making the rounds that the City of Cape Town will be cutting the water supply on Sunday.

Cllr Xanthea Limberg, Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services; Energy at the City of Cape Town says it takes these kind of messages very seriously and they are currently conducting investigations to establish the origins of this message.

If the source is found we will ensure that we are able to take action where we can. But the message is not true at all.

Cllr Xanthea Limberg, Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services; Energy

It is a waste of the City's time and resources. We urge our residents to only take heed to messages posted only on the City's official social network pages.

The message reads: Hi colleagues my sister works at the city at water and sanitation. They have a plan to restrict the water flow for 2mrw. Its been said the water will be off from 5am until 11am. Please make provision for 2mrw. Fill up bottles, buckets.
