SARS vs Adrian Lackay spat gets CCMA hearing

The case between South African Revenue Service (SARS) and its former spokesperson Adrian Lackay, was heard on Monday by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

Lackay claims that his working conditions became unbearable and he was dismissed from his position after Tom Moyane took over as SARS commissioner. He also alleges that an illegal "rogue unit" had been set up by senior officials at SARS.

EWN reporter, Gia Niccolaides says Lackay wants the CCMA to order SARS to pay him twelve months salary as compensation.

He left SARS in February 2015 but claims that he was forced out because his employment became intolerable following Tom Moyane's appointment as commissioner.

Even though he resigned he is claiming that it was a constructive dismissal. He argues that even a month before he resigned, his position as spokesperson was advertised.

Niccolaides says SARS denied everything, stating it had no intention of getting rid of him, but rather wanted to beef up the media unit. SARS says Lackay's resignation was voluntary and amicable.
