Sibanye Platinum demands R26.8 million from Mineral Resources Minister

Mining company Sibanye Platinum is demanding R26.8 million from Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane and three inspectors for ordering a safety stoppage that suspended production at the two mines in August last year.

Alan Seccombe, Mining editor at Business Day, says this is not the first time a mining company will be taking the Department of Mineral Resources to court over what they say is "overzealous use of the Act".

Its quite a broad range of mines that this stoppage has affected so I don't think there's any strategy, I don't think there's anything sinister in this.
