ANC loses 3 metros/Brexit/Trump… how these unexpected events will impact in 2017

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.

Donald Rumsfeld (former US Secretary of Defence)

Every week The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews Galileo Capital’s Warren Ingram for his personal finance feature.

This week Ingram discussed the following big events that surprised most people in 2016, and what it means for investors this year:

  • Brexit

  • US Election

  • ANC losing three metros

He also touched on the best performing stock markets of 2016:

  • Peru: 90%

  • Russia: 84%

  • Brazil: 81%

These are the events, he said, that could impact markets in 2017:

  • Brexit (will it be good or bad for investors?)

  • Trump (good for the US economy, but bad for the rest of the world?)

  • ANC elective conference

Ingram discussed how to invest when considering these events and whether or not it’s worth worrying about them.

The very busy Ingram also answered the following question he got from Twitter:

  • If you had to emigrate from South Africa; which country would be best investment wise?

  • Unit trusts vs Tax Free Savings Accounts; do they perform similarly in terms of the returns or dividends earned?

For more detail listen to Ingram in the audio below (and/or scroll down for quotes from it).
