Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed.— Donald Trump, US President
When Barack Obama became President the US was mired in its worst recession since the Great Depression (1929 – 1939); at one point shedding 800 000 jobs per month.
Within a year, the job losses halted.
Today there are 9.265 million more nonfarm jobs than when Obama first took office.
82 months of job creation in a row (the longest period of employment growth since the Great Depression) saw the unemployment rate fall from 9.8% to 4.9%.
The US unemployment rate is now lower than it has been most of the time since 1948.
