Confessions on masturbating at the office

Masturbation is the most common sexual act, but there is still a lot of stigma around it.

Clinical sexologist Dr Eve says there are questions about whether it is appropriate to masturbate in the work place.

Time Out New York published an article which revealed that of 39 % of co-workers masturbate at the office.

The survey showed that 39% of all participants, irrespective of gender or sexual orientation, were doing masturbating for reasons including:

  • boredom
  • wanting to relieve stress
  • arousal
  • curbing a hangover

Dr Eve says one of the health benefits of self-pleasure is that it releases endorphins that provide relaxation and ease anxiety.

She asked listeners about their views on the ethics of work-place masturbation, and these are some of the bold responses:

We don't do it alone. There's a group of us and we do it before we head off to work at the shopping mall. Each person has their own cubical.

"I have masturbated in the car at the office parking lot. Sometimes you've just got to relieve the pressure. I do not stop being a sexual being.

You get into work... and sometimes you just knock one out and you're good for Saturday. It just clears the body.

Steven, caller

I heard your topic when I walked in the office, I just came in after off-loading a few seconds ago. There are urges... I've done it maybe four times at work.

John, caller

We need to get to a point where we are comfortable in having conversations about masturbation and self-pleasure. If you're comfortable with touching yourself, it enhances the sexual experience with your partner.

Jenny, caller

Some people have a cigarette, others walk around the block... it's the same kind if thing and you can focus on your work. Is it really such a bad thing?!
