A University of Witwatersrand (Wits) professor has been found guilty of sexually harassing three female colleagues. This was the finding of the independent panel appointed by Wits Gender Equity Officer.
Two of the women are lectures and another one is an administrator.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Habib has dismissed the professor with immediate effect after hearing all sides involved.
Women at the university are calling for Wits to name the professor.
They say while they are happy with the outcome of the disciplinary hearing, they want the university to name him. They feel the university is protecting him by not naming him.— Thando Kubheka, EWN reporter
Habib has spoken out about gender-based abuse at the university. He says this cannot be tolerated and by dismissing this particular professor they want to set an example that they will not stand for any gender-based harm or abuse.— Thando Kubheka, EWN reporter
