CapeTalk listener Corrie Collins of Cape Town emailed Primedia to relate this incident heard on air.
On Thursday 2 February, a woman called into The Money Show and reported that she and a few other people, including a child, were stuck in the lift at the Gautrain.
After 45 minutes, she said they were starting to panic.
They had called the emergency number and were told that they “were not available”
In desperation, she called CapeTalk.
The Money Show was on air, and Bruce Whitfield’s staff set about making some calls, and the people were eventually rescued.
Corrie wrote the following:
It all ended well, but my point is that if you ever doubt that your radio station has relevance in society, then here is your answer. It says “ call Cape Talk” – they take things seriously and will react!
It also says that people have your number on their cell phones….. how relevant is that!
Shame on those who set up that emergency number in that lift!
Well done CapeTalk, for being viewed as reliable, relevant, serious and “always there”.
