Findings of 2008 power outage probe not open to public - Eskom

Eskom says it will not release the report on 2008 power outages, which was commissioned by law firm Dentons, to the public, reports EWN's Mia Lindeque.

Eskom says there was only one report into the state of the utility in 2008 and that the energy parastatal has nothing to hide.

The Eskom Board briefed the media on the investigation into the state of the utility's finances, explains Lindeque.

Eskom chairperson Ben Ngubane says those who wish to see the report on the state of the utility must apply through a special process for the Promotion of Access to Information Act.

Ngubane told the media that 13 out of the report's 18 recommendations were implemented, despite it being incomplete due to financial constraints.

After receiving a draft report, Eskom terminated the investigation in 2015, turning the draft report into the final one.

He says the report could not be released in 2015 as Eskom feared it would have had an impact on the already high quote.

Ngubane maintains that neither he nor the board ever interfered in the report, amid reports that it was 'sanitised'.
