I have more questions than answers - economist on #SONA2017

Economist strategist at Argon Asset Management, Thabi Leoka, says President Jacob Zuma did not give details on how will the economy reach the 1.3% growth target.

President delivered his State of the Nation Address (Sona) yesterday despite disruptions and chaos.

I read the speech again this morning, and I had a lot of question marks in my text.

Is it commodity price that is going to lift the economy. Is it going to come from expenditure side of the economy or production side? Are we going to see increased productivity? That I did not get from the speech.

He talked about the labour market improving. Looking at the IMF report that was released last year, one of the things they mentioned is that we lack an inclusive labour market. and we still have labour market issues. I don't know now what he sees or deems to be an improvement. I would have liked clarity on that.

Emerging markets economist at Nomura International, Peter Attard- Montalto, says South Africa may have to watch out for a change in a banking charter.

Yesterday Zuma said the big four banks are controlling the economy and stealing ideas of poor black people because they have money to implement them.
