Experts match South African couples to get 'Married at First Sight'

Six young South Africans have married complete strangers handpicked for them by a team of relationship experts.

The three couples form a part of Mzantsi's local version of the international hit series 'Married At First Sight'.

Matchmaker Paula Quinsee is one of the experts responsible for pairing the newlyweds - who met for the first time at the altar.

Cameras document every moment of the relationship following the wedding and honeymoon.

The married couples move in together and start their new lives. Six weeks into their nuptials, they decide on whether to stay together or file for divorce.

Quinsee explains that the individuals all felt they had failed to find love in the traditional way and chose to put their hearts in the hands of a team of experts.

The show premiered on 3 February and the couples tied the knot and were paired together on 10 February.

The three men and three women were matched according to criteria, including:

  • background
  • upbringing
  • hobbies and interests
  • career aspirations
  • educational qualifications
  • culture
  • spirituality and religion
  • financial standing
  • sexuality and sexual health

The international show has a 50% success rate, the relationship expert explains.

Quinsee talks about the struggles of dating, the different phases of relationships and how to make marriages work.

Catch the show on Lifetime (DStv channel 131) every Friday evening at 20:50.

Take listen to callers share their view on the concept:
