Nehawu all set to march on National Treasury and Public Works

National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) has been mobilising members for the planned national day of action against National Treasury and the Department of Public Service and Administration.

The march is to take place on Wednesday 22 February.

Nehawu spokesperson, Khaya Xaba, says the action is aimed against Treasury and Pravin Gordhan.

(It) is purely us fighting for our workers. It has nothing to do with factional battles of the ANC and reshuffling of the Cabinet.

Khaya Xaba, Nehawu spokesperson

Xaba says the union is fighting for vacant posts to be filled and for higher wages.

We are marching to Treasury to say unfreeze all the posts that have frozen. Fill all vacant posts and hire more staff because the Public Service doesn't have enough workforce to undertake jobs.

Khaya Xaba, Nehawu spokesperson

Xaba says the main march will be to Parliament before Gordhan delivers his budget speech, and other marches will be in Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape and Gauteng.
