The International Migration Organisation (IMO) has condemned the so-called anti-migrant march scheduled to take place in the Pretoria CBD on Friday.
IMO Chief of Mission Richard Ots says people concerned about drugs and other social ills should protest against crime without using xenophobic sentiments.
Ots has also cautioned against the public association of crime with migrants and using foreign nationals as 'scapegoats'.
Often there is this phenomenon of scapegoatism; migrants that are scapegoats. People are concerned about crime and education and take it out on the migrants.— Richard Ots, Chief of Mission at the International Migration Organisation
Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has urged those taking part in the march to act within the law.
Ots talks about global research on migrants and the realities they face living in foreign countries.
