Newly elected Western Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Bonginkosi Madikizela says the party encourages robust debate and that all is well within the party.
Madikizela, MEC of Human Settlements in the Western Cape, was elected as the new interim provincial leader.
“What is important is that things are not personal; people will put their names forward, they will campaign for people they believe are better suited to lead the party. We will pat each other on the back and move on.”
He says the focus for the party is the 2019 general elections.
“People who think the party is falling apart just because there is a contestation for provincial leadership must understand that this is how politics work.”
Madikizela was one of five candidates who contested the election, and will now serve as interim leader until the next provincial elective congress in August this year.
