Analyst: SACP seems deeply concerned about the state of the ANC

Political analyst David Monyae says the latest display of factionalism within the ranks of the African National Congress (ANC) is telling and may be a sign of depleting support for President Jacob Zuma.

Amid calls by the ANC Youth League to have Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan redeployed, the South African Communist Party’s central executive committee has opposed the appointment of the former Eskom CEO to Parliament.

In a media briefing on Sunday, Blade Nzimande said the SACP is deeply worried about the state of the ANC.

He referred to what he says is a growing recklessness and disdain for a collective decision making and for formal democratically elected structures.

With a developmental state, you need all forces to be united around key issues so it was quite disturbing to hear from the Communist Party saying that the entire radical transformation is not what they have in mind.

Monyae says the SACP are saying the policies are being used for other purposes.

That, from a policy perspective, is quite disturbing, that the President does not have everyone on board.
