Education remains the big ticket item in Gauteng budget

EWN's Gia Nicholaides, who attended the Gauteng budget speech on Tuesday, told Stephen Grootes, that MEC, Barbara Creecy, allocated R40.8bn for education, up from R39.5bn.

Creecy has made further key allocations towards the education sector which would include R3.37bn for direct transfer to public ordinary schools, early childhood development centres, and special schools.

This means cutting down on non-core expenses, this includes catering, accommodation and corporate branding.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

Nicolaides says the MEC wants to do away with unnecessary expenditure, which has resulted in the province saving an amount of R414m.
