Sassa to answer to ConCourt

8 March 2017 3:43 PM

South Africa Social Security Agency has now been summoned to the Constitutional Court over social grant payment debacle.

The Constitutional Court has requested the South Africa Social Security Agency to answer detailed questions by Monday over the current Sassa and cash Paymaster contract saga.

EWN's Stephen Grootes told Redi Tlhabi that the court has issued and directed questions to the parties involved and does not mention the minister by name.

Some of the questions posed are: when did the South African Social Security Agency first realise they could not pay out the grants? Who realised they couldn't pay out the grants and why did it not inform the courts?

The department will also have to explicitly explain why nothing has been done about the social grant payments when it has known about the matter since October last year.

If this agreement is in writing, they want a copy.

Stephen Grootes, EWN Reporter
