'Prasa board was axed to steer fraud investigations off track'

Fired Prasa board chairman Popo Molefe has come out claiming that Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters dissolved the parastatal's board to protect former acting CEO Collins Letsoalo.

Molefe also alleges that the Prasa board was dissolved on Wednesday in a bid to halt the investigations into fraud and corruption.

Investigative reporter Pieter-Louis Myburgh explains that the ruptions between the Transport ministry and Molefe's office have been bubbling since last year.

Minister Peters started making noises that she is not happy with Molefe's ongoing probes into Prasa's multi-billion rand contracts in mid 2016.

Myburgh believes Molefe was beginning to uncover high-level details in the investigations into Prasa's irregular tender deals.

Molefe's board has been getting close to some every sensitive information about monies flowing out of the massive Prasa contracts to politically-connected people.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Investigative reporter at News24

Myburgh started looking into Prasa in 2015, investigating dodgy transactions which connected former Prasa CEO Lucky Montana with rail tenders, other politically-linked service providers, and even President Jacob Zuma.

It's reported that the forensic investigations have revealed irregular contracts worth billions awarded to various suppliers and service providers.

There's a can of worms that's being uncovered here (at Prasa) and there are very powerful people who are desperate to quash these investigations.
