It has been reported that Communications Minister Faith Muthambi has written to the National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete that she will take findings of the Parliamentary ad hoc committee probing the affairs of the public broadcaster to court for review.
On Tuesday, Parliament adopted the report of the committee, which recommended that President Jacob Zuma reviews Muthambi's position.
The inquiry found Muthambi to be incompetent at carrying out her responsibilities as a shareholder representative at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
It also found that she unduly influenced the appointment of former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
University of South Africa's (Unisa) Professor Lesiba Teffo analyses Muthambi's decision to challenge the report that has been endorsed by her own party, the African National Congress (ANC).
What is problematic is that the ANC has endorsed this. She is a senior member. She is in the executive. She should go along with the decision as a democrat. It tells you there is more to it than the outcome itself.— Professor Lesiba Teffo, political analyst based at Unisa
It is more about the succession battle that is rising right now. It's all about if she were to be kicked out, who will take over. Will that person be aligned with our section or not.— Professor Lesiba Teffo, political analyst based at Unisa
There are assumptions that she more inclined to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.— Professor Lesiba Teffo, political analyst based at Unisa
Lesiba says the ANC has reached a stage where it can no longer save itself.
The ANC has reached a stage where it cannot save itself from itself.— Professor Lesiba Teffo, political analyst based at Unisa
Once a liberation reaches this stage, the best it can do is to accept. Take a break for five to ten years. Re-brand. Re-transform. Be born-again.— Professor Lesiba Teffo, political analyst based at Unisa
