"Kidnapped" KZN baby in care of social development, mum to appear in court

Acting police commissioner, Kgomotso Phalane has condemned the waste of State resources deployed in the search for a one-month-old baby Siwaphiwe, reported missing by the mother in KwaZulu Natal on Friday.

Speaking to Xolani Gwala, Saps spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe, said three people including the biological mother were arrested at a roadblock in the early hours of Sunday morning around the Mariannhill Toll Plaza.

The mother reported the baby missing on Friday, sparking wide spread concern among communities and organisations and the deployment of Saps members.

There were many inconsistencies in the initial report of how the incident happened.

Col Athlenda Mathe, Saps

She will face charges of hijacking and kidnapping, and possible additional charges of contravening of the Children's Act.
