The mother of rescued Siwaphiwe Mbambo appeared briefly before the Durban Magistrates court on Monday on charges relating to hijacking and kidnapping.
The case has been postponed to Wednesday to allow for paternity tests for the State to compile its full charge sheet and so that the mother's attorney may be present.
Mother Sibongile Mbambo may face more charges - including the misuse of state resources - after police and community members searched for her baby this past weekend in what appears to have been a staged hijacking.
The missing one-month old baby was found on Sunday morning.
Mbambo reported that her child was abducted during a hijacking at gunpoint outside a Greyville shopping centre on Friday.
Police revealed that Mbambo was among one of the three people arrested along the N3 highway at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza on Sunday.
The fiasco has left Twitter users shocked and speculating about the real story.
