Cape Cycle Tour: Where to now?

Cape Argus Cycle Tour Race Director and CEO, David Bellairs says cyclists will not be credited for this year but automatic entry will be offered to participants who collected their race kit from Sunday’s registration.

For the first time, organisers of the 40th Cape Argus Cycle tour had to cancel the race due to bad winds, as well as threat of protests.

The race was initially shortened to 78 km due to protest damage to certain sections of the route.

Bellairs says they will keep track of the weather trends toward the end of March and that the team will not rule out a later date to host the cycle tour.

The amount of work that went in around the entire route is heartbreaking and those are all costs that are sunk, there is nothing we can do about them.

At this stage, we haven’t met fully as a team and we need to go through a proper debrief. If it means moving it to later in March, that is not something we would rule out
