Lead SA to promote the Constitution in new campaign

In celebration of it’s 21st birthday, Lead SA will roll out a campaign over the next 12 months, aimed at promoting the rights and values of the South African constitution.

“Living the Constitution” will showcase aspects of the document; highlight the work of civil society organisations and community leaders contributing to democracy.

Whilst celebrating the country’s milestones, the initiative will also provide a platform to reflect on what still needs to be done amid increasingly complex issues of governance, accountability, and the implementation of basic rights.

Lead SA’s Karl Gostner says, “Lead SA holds the Constitution in the highest regard. It enables participation in our democracy, and as champions of active citizenry, it is at the very centre of everything that we do.”

He says the intention is to encourage a more practical means of upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution.

The intention is to highlight, in practical ways, how we can take the blueprint and live it in our daily lives. We also want to shine a spotlight on the work that many of these organisations are doing, to strengthen their capacity to spread these important messages.

The initiative will roll out through key themes, from human rights to political and economic freedom, Africa, youth and education.

Content will be promoted through podcasts, social media, personality profiles, on-air discussions and public service announcements.

The first spike will be in the form of Twitter takeovers by organisations working to promote human rights.

Through the ongoing campaign, we hope to unpack what the Constitution means to individuals; to leadership development in South Africa and to encourage active participation in our democracy.
