An Eersterivier High School's grade 11 pupil was stabbed to death outside the school premises on Tuesday.
Western Cape Education Department head of communications, Paddy Atwell, says the department is not aware of any arrests at this stage, but the perpetrator was from outside the school.
Atwell says the investigation is still underway and details are still sketchy.
Meanwhile, circuit manager and school principal at Solomon Qatyana Primary School, Lwandle, were held hostage.
Atwell says the chair of the governing board took them to room where they were held hostage.
He [circuit manager] was held there from the morning. Eventually police arrived and took him out, but police refused to let him leave. So, he was stuck at the school till 3 o'clock afternoon yesterday (Tuesday).— Paddy Atwell, Western Cape Education Department head of communications
As soon as he was released he went to the police station and pressed a charge against the chair of the governing body.— Paddy Atwell, Western Cape Education Department head of communications
