WC Home Affairs to assist Imizamo Yethu residents with ID's

The Western Cape's Home Affairs Provincial Manager, Yusuf Simons, says his department is working with disaster management to assist in the roll out of identity documents for thousands of displaced residents in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement.

Over 2 000 people were left homeless after a fire destroyed at least 650 structures.

A late registration of birth process will also be allowed for those who are not registered.

We have teams ready at the moment, we wanted to go in there on Monday but we are working with stakeholders.

Yusuf Simons, WC Home Affairs Provincial Manager

At the moment we are just waiting for the finalization of the list of those affected so that we can do the verification an certainly we will go in there and deliver the process.
