City of Joburg Level 2 water restrictions remain

The City of Joburg has made a decision to only partially lift the water restrictions that were imposed during the drought.

Cllr Nico de Jager, City of Joburg MMC for environment and infrastructure, says South Africa still remains a water scarce country, therefore they are urging residents to keep using water sparingly.

The Vaal Dam is more than 95% full following continued good rainfall in parts of the province.

We come from a period of drought and there's absolutely no one who can foresee that it won't happen in the future.

De Jager says it is only level 2 water restriction that are still in place and there are no tariff charges penalties.

The city is asking residents to be mindful when watering their gardens and not to do it during the heat of the day.

He says the city is promoting behavioral change so that they don't find themselves in a similar situation again.
