LISTEN: Mmusi Maimane slams Zille's "indefensible" colonial tweet

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, says he has referred Western Cape Premier Helen Zille to the party's disciplinary structures for investigation.

Maimane referred to Zille's comments on colonialism legacy as "unacceptable and offensive".

Zille said colonialism was not only negative on Twitter on Thursday morning.

Her actions and statement was completely unacceptable and indefensible, and therefore I have asked for it to be investigated fully, to say where does the organisation goes from this point forward because she is a member of the DA.

Mmusi Maimane, DA leader

If we want to build a South Africa for all, we need to all come around and understand the history and the pain of all South Africans. It's not a question of saying if you are black you must be anti-colonialism, and if white in any other way. It is to say all of us must be quick to denounce the evils of the past because all of us need to join hands to build a prospective future together.

Mmusi Maimane, DA leader

It is not for me to prejudge because once I do that as the leader of an organisation I can undermine our very own processes.

Mmusi Maimane, DA leader
