The Wine Feature: From dark berries and spice to fruity tropical flavours

Every week CapeTalk host John Maytham offers listeners three selections of wine to try, which cater for different budgets.

Tall Horse Shiraz from 2016 at just over R40 with dark berry and spice, soft tannins but quite fruity.

It's simple, it's approachable, it's drinkable and reasonably priced.

John Maytham

The Nederberg Paarl Cabernet from 2015 at about R80.

It's always been a solid wine, a dependable wine. But it is given a lift by coming from the 2015 vintage.

John Maytham

Maytham says it is an absolutely classic Cabernet filled with blackcurrant, violet and vanilla oak edges.

The third and top end pick this week is from Boschendal's 1685 range, a 2016 Sauvignon Blanc at just over R91 and full of tropical fruit flavours

It has a nice palate weight and texture.
