SA surf heroes honoured with Cape monument at Muizenberg beach

The 30 plaques will be unveiled at Muizenberg beach this weekend at an inaugural event to honour South Africa's surfing icons.

The site, titled the Surfers’ Circle Walk of Fame, will be South Africa’s first national monument dedicated to preserving and promoting the heritage of surfing.

The first 30 inductees into the Surfers’ Circle Walk of Fame will be unveiled at Muizenberg beach in Cape Town on Sunday 19 March at 11am.

Veteran watersports advocate Paul Botha is the convener of the wall of fame and says the event will happen annually.

He says it has been a long haul securing the land and monument status of the site.

It took four years from the first time we presented it.

Botha says it is important to recognised and preserve the history of surfing and its social impact.

There's no surfing museum in South Africa. We need a repository where we can put the the history of South African surfing.
