ANC SACP marriage may be on the rocks

The South African Communist Party (SACP) deputy general secretary, Solly Mapaila, believe the modus operandi of the alliance needs to be upgraded.

He says organsises in the party's old pre-1994 style which needs to change.

The party's General Secretary, Blade Nzimande, said over the weekend the party should consider standing for elections independently of its alliance partner.

Nzimande was speaking at the OR Tambo Memorial Lecture in Umlazi on Sunday.

We are now looking at the process of reconfiguring the way in which the alliance operates so that the independent nature of each component of the alliance can still be maintained and respected...

What we are indicating now is that the deepening political changes in the country have created a position where we have begun to talk more across the lines, even on common issues.
