Ten years ago Spier Wine Estate began focusing on sustainability and putting plans in place. Now Newton-King says, with this current water crisis they are in the process of planning for the next ten years but time is of the essence.

Ten years ago Spier implemented our wastewater treatment plant.
We have a big wastewater treatment plant that recycles all our black and grey water and that water is used to irrigate our gardens and grounds. And we have even repiped it back into one of our toilets which is one of the busiest toilets during the day.— Heidi Newton-King, Sustainability and HR Director, Spier Wine Estate
The business has worked hard to implement the conservation goals they set over the past ten years, some 400 water saving devices across the farm.

They have spent time educating staff on the importance of water saving.
