Founders of local premium craft vodka pay homage to the City of Gold

Midrand-based entrepreneurs Dumo Ndlovu and Lungelo Fatyela are the co-founders of Au Gold Vodka, a premium locally-crafted brand which celebrates Jozi's hustle.

The businessmen started making Au Gold Vodka two years ago, inspired by the melting pot that is the City of Gold.

AU is the compound for gold and if you look at City of Johannesburg, it was founded and built by gold.

Dumo Ndlovu, co-founder of Au Gold Vodka

People came here for the pursuit of better living and success. Au Gold Vodka represents that and celebrates how far the city has come. Our achievements and the continent.

Lungelo Fatyela, co-founder of Au Gold Vodka

Handmade in a craft distillery in the heart of Joburg, Au Gold Vodka is grain-based Vodka and is triple distilled to perfection, Fatyela explains.

Ndlovu adds that his background as a chef equipped him with the skills to produce spirits. The pair also joined a training academy and have been mentored by an expert in the local distillery industry.

Vodka is a people's drink. It's a party drink... We're trying to have people taste our product because we believe in its quality, its right up there with the very best.

Dumo Ndlovu, co-founder of Au Gold Vodka

But their entrepreneurial journey hasn't been smooth sailing. In the past the pair had attempted other business ventures, including a food franchise concept, but failed due to lack of funding and other issues.

They unpacked the empowering lessons they learnt from their past experiences and the importance of resilience.

Sometimes a door closing is just to guide your towards your path... It's having perspective.

Lungelo Fatyela, co-founder of Au Gold Vodka

Fatyela and Ndlovu explain that Au Gold Vodka is the first of many more artisanal crafted products which hope to come into the local market from their 100% black-owned distillery in Centurion.
