Steven Friedman, a political analyst, says the Democratic Alliance (DA) has to take action against Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille for her comments on colonialism which sparked outrage.
Friedman says the DA should at least relieve Zille of her premiership and possibly remove her from the central executive.
He says what may impede this decision is that Zille has been the most influential member of the DA over the past ten years. The party may be concerned with losing its traditional supporters but that is unlikely to happen he says.
Where are those people going to go? The only alternative is the Freedom Front Plus.— Steven Friedman, Political analyst
Friedman says the DA will never attract a majority of black South African voters but aims to ultimately position itself as a coalition partner going forward.
Despite the party growth she created she may now be a liability he concludes.
