Lawyers for Human Rights is appearing in the Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday on behalf of 28 homeless people living under a bridge in Hillbrow.
The organisation is taking on the City of Joahnnesburg after metro police confiscated the group’s belongings including ID documents and disposed of them during cleanup operations organised by Mayor Herman Mashaba in February.
The organisation’s Louise du Plessis says the group's shelters were also destroyed.
