ANCYL calls on fee-free education and "nationalisation of universities"

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has called on the Fees Commission to make a distinction between free education and fee-free education.

General Secretary Njabulo Nzuza represented the league during his submission in Pretoria, reports EWN's Clement Manyathela.

Nzuza explained that free higher education is not limited to tuition fees, and includes costs such as accommodation, study material and travel allowances, which the commission must also consider.

He says the free education they are calling for must include tuition fees, accommodation, study material and travel allowances.

The league also called on the nationalisation of universities, according to Manyathela. This despite tertiary institutions already being state owned.

Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor will make submission on Wednesday afternoon.
