Agricultural Land Holdings Bill may prohibit foreign ownership of land

Ruth Hall, Associate Professor at The Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) says the Agricultural Land Holdings Bill is not clear the problems it will be attempting to solve.

She says the bill does three things; Firstly, bans foreigners from owning land in South Africa. Secondly, every South African that owns agricultural land will have to notify the state withing 90 days who they are, and in addition, declare their race and gender.

I actually think that is probably a far more effective way of doing it than the state going around trying to work out who owns what.
