Policing expert Dr Johan Burger says the police should have been more transparent about the initial arrests of three suspects in connection to the burglary at the office of the Chief Justice.
This comes after the release of one of the arrested suspects, without being charged.
The other two suspects appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate's court on charges unrelated to the crime involving the theft of 15 computers.
Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane had earlier held a press conference praising the investigation team for the swift arrests.
According to Burger, the police could have been more responsible by clarifying that connections to the crime had not yet been established.
They could have managed this just a little bit better.— Johan Burger, senior researcher at Institute for Security Studies
Burger says there has been enormous pressure on the police to solve the case and Phahlane should have been certain about evidence prior to making the public announcement.
