The importance of identifying your child's gifts and talents

Helping children tap into their talents is one of the important aspects of parenting. When a talent is realised early it can be nurtured into something children can use in the world of work.

Parenting expert, Nikki Bush says parents need to observe their children on a minute by minute basis because some talents unfold slowly. Observing children while they play could be one of the ways to realise their talents.

Every child has something that they are talented at and it is our job as parents to help uncover that talent and help our children to develop it and use it for the greater good.

Nikki Bush - Parenting expert

One of the things that we have to be weary of is looking at talent through the traditional eyes, which tells us that talent comes in the form of mathematical ability, artistic ability or apathetic ability ...

Nikki Bush - Parenting expert

According to Bush, parents have 12 years to uncover their children's talent and should not put them under pressure to do many activities all at once.

She says exposing children to different culture, experiences and environment can also help help uncover certain talents. It doesn't have to be an overseas experience, she says.
